(We might use the park track. It could be muddy)
Expecting a change of route.
The Park and entry gate to the uphill trail will be closed until 11am Wednesday. We will walk instead up Worsley’s Rd and Spur to the chairlift.
If the chairlift is also closed then we will return via Worsley’s Rd or the Harry Ell walkway.

Lambing Closures
Posted by OFTC Committee on 07/08/2026 at 2:04 pm
Yes folks, it’s that time of the year. Lambing closes two key tracks 8 August to 15 October 2026 within Te Ara Pātaka track network - Mt Herbert Walkway (Diamond Harbour to Mt Herbert) and Monument North (Purau Port Levy Saddle to Little Mt Herbert). Monument South and Faulkner Track also remain closed due to large slips, but Faulkner Track is currently being repaired (yay!). Don't be tempted to use closed tracks, it jeopardises the ability for the public to access these tracks in the future. For more detail see below.
Te Ara Pātaka Lambing Closures 2026 8 August - 15 October
Te Ara Pātaka will remain open from Gebbies Pass to Hilltop and via Orton Bradley Valley Track. Packhorse Hut and Rod Donald Hut can be booked as normal.
These tracks are Closed during lambing:
Diamond Harbour to Mt Herbert (Mt Herbert Walkway)
Monument Track (North) from Purau Port Levy Saddle
Summit Link Track (short cut between summit of Little Mt Herbert and Monument North)
All other Orton Bradley Tracks (note different dates: 19 August – 10 October)
These tracks are Open during lambing:
Gebbies Pass to Packhorse
Kaituna Valley to Packhorse
Tūpari Reserve Packhorse Hut Track
Packhorse to Mt Herbert (South side of Mt Bradley)
Mt Herbert to Port Levy Saddle
Port Levy Saddle to Hilltop
Te Ahu Pātiki Tracks
These Orton Bradley Park tracks: Valley (main track), Arboretum, Dunmallet
These tracks are Closed due to slips (not lambing):
Packhorse to Te Ahu Pātiki and Orton Bradley Park via Faulkner Track (North-West side of Mt Bradley)
Monument Track (South) to Kaituna Valley
Behaviour during lambing:
Farmers keep a close eye on their livestock.
No dogs
Do not touch lambs and calves
Give animals plenty of space
Stay on marked track
Mountain bikers - If ewes and lambs nearby – slow/dismount
